Time Well Spent: Protecting What Matters Most

“Time is what we want most, when our clock has but moments left… it’s the one thing that means the most, but what we manage poorly.” William Penn/Cale Schorer

Time. We crave more of it, chase it, and yet, somehow, waste it.
Sandstone Rustic Retreat was created to make space for those few precious moments of life we are intentional about — spending time with the people who mean the most, while we still have them.

It’s not about the price of a stay… it’s about how much that time is worth when the clock runs out.

A Reflection from the Heart
As I reflect today — the four-year anniversary of my daughter Peyton’s passing — I think about how most people don’t know our story. They don’t know our heartache or our struggles. But what they do understand is being busy.

Life has a way of sweeping you away like an angry river current if you’re not careful to protect your time — to be intentional about who you spend it with, and how you spend it when you’re together.

Faces in screens, or face to face?

I’ve seen the wasted time I can’t get back — moments lost with an amazing young girl, and with my son too. Things we think are important fade fast when you’re faced with the reality that, in the blink of an eye, your loved ones could be gone. Without a goodbye. Without a hug. Without an “I’m sorry.” Or an “I love you more than all the stars in the sky.”

We all fight this battle — some do better than others — but I know, looking around me, that too many of us are out of bandwidth. Our lives get filled with “important stuff.” But if we had to choose between all that stuff or one more moment with a spouse, parent, or child who’s gone or soon could be, we’d see just how little that “stuff” really matters.

Creating Space for What Lasts
That’s why Sandstone exists — as a reminder to slow down, breathe deep, and be with the ones you love while you can.

Whether it’s sitting under a sky full of stars, sharing morning coffee on the deck, or walking side by side through the woods — these are the moments that make life rich.

We can’t add more time to our lives, but we can fill the time we do have with meaning.
And sometimes, that means turning off the noise of the world long enough to remember what — and who — truly matters most.
